Pakistan Higher Education — The Executive Education Mountain Module

Executive education — the MBA electives, leadership development programmes, and senior management courses delivered by Pakistan's leading business schools — faces a design challenge that classrooms consistently fail to solve. The executives who attend these programmes are motivated by learning but embedded in operational contexts that undermine application. The classroom delivers the concept; the real world demands different behaviour; the gap between the two persists.

The residential module — delivering executive education content outside the classroom, in a residential setting that changes the participant's cognitive and relational context — is the standard international business school response to this challenge. Harvard Business School's Soldiers Field campus, INSEAD's Fontainebleau forest, IMD's Lake Geneva setting — the leading executive education institutions use residential settings deliberately because they understand that the setting is part of the pedagogy.

Pakistan's business schools have not systematically used this approach. The Bhurban cedar estate is the most accessible residential setting available to Islamabad's executive education programmes.
